Art Classes for Homeschoolers and Adults
We have several classes to offer. If you are a group, or an individual, CONTACT us so we can develop a schedule that will fit your schedule.
Drawing (Ages 8-18)
The way we see the world shapes our world-view and how we approach life and our relationships. The ability to “see” is one of the most important aspects of creating a drawing. Developing the art of observation will be the principal aspect of this class. We will be learning to gaze at a subject, discovering relationships between shapes, looking for subtle shifts in light and shadow, composition, perspective and many other tools for creating an accurate rendering of any subject. With both graphite and ink in hand, students will be working on classroom projects, and will also be required to follow-up each week in their sketch journal. Instructor demonstrations are an important part of any session and take place often and when necessary. Attention will be given to different age groups and skill levels within the class.
Contact us to schedule (Two 6-week sessions)
Session One
Session Two
Maximum 12 students
Instructor fee: $120 each 6-week session
Lab fee: $18 (includes sketch book, pencils, pens, kneaded eraser)
Printmaking – Storybook Writing and Illustration (Ages 8-18)
As a group, we will choose and then develop a story from a famous historical character. Then, to illustrate the story, we will be doing block-printing technique. Each student will do a drawing, transfer the drawing to the block and carve the negative spaces with delicate carving tools to create the printing block. Prints are then handmade from each block and exchanged amongst all the students. The books are then assembled, covered with a unique textured paper, then hand-bound with string. Each student will have a final book to bring home.
(8-week session)
Maximum 16 students (One Instructor plus teaching assistant)
Instructor fee: $160. Lab fee: $18 (includes Safety-Kut printmaking blocks, use of cutting tools, printing papers, ink, embossing materials, book binding materials.)
Painting — Oil on primed wood panels (Ages 13-18)
Each week we will begin with a brief demo by the instructor to teach a concept. Art History will also be included in the instruction as a way to introduce each lesson. Classes will be a mix of still-life and studio-work on paintings started from photos. Composition, contrast (value) and color will all be covered in a comprehensive way. Students will begin a new painting each week that they will be required to finish at home. Additionally, paid private instruction is available.
NOTE: M. Graham oil paints will be used in this class, due to their low toxicity walnut oil base. This enables rich juicy full-brush application with no addition of solvents. Prerequisite: Basic drawing proficiency. Attention will be given to different age groups and skill levels within the class.

Figure Art Workshop
Every week will be something new. Long and short poses, costumed and nude. Check the calendar to see what the set-up will be. We have drawing horses to use on drawing nights. You will have to bring your own easels on long-pose nights if you want to paint or sculpt. The cost is $60 for 5 workshops, or $15 each if you drop-in. You can buy a 5-session card at any workshop.
Also, everyone is welcome to bring something to share. Perhaps a bottle of wine or water, some cheese, hummus, a bag of nuts, mineral water, juice, a fruit plate, a bag of kettle chips, home-made cookies – whatever you like. There will always be something to snack on during breaks. Let’s get creative!!
